Common Chevy Dashboard Symbols
Power Steering Trouble Light
The indicator is a picture symbol of a steering wheel and an exclamation point. It can be red or yellow, depending on the model. If it appears on the dashboard, turn off the engine and then on. That action will reset the light. But if it persists, take your vehicle to a mechanic for further diagnosis.
Maintenance or Service Required Indicators
The maintenance or service change required indicator has many variants. In some models, it is a yellow car with the word SERVICE below it, while some show a yellow car with a wrench inside. And since all vehicle maintenance starts with oil and filter change, some indicators can be word symbols. They pop up on the dashboard as OIL CHANGE, MAINT REQD, or OIL and wrench. All these symbols warn of a pending maintenance schedule. Take your vehicle to an automotive repair shop for service.
Pedestrian Warning Indicator
The pedestrian warning indicator is a red picture symbol of a person standing between two lines. It can also be a standing person with waves radiating away from both sides. It appears on your dashboard if your vehicle detects a possible collision with a pedestrian. The car automatically applies brakes to avoid hitting the person but apply brakes if you see the warning indicator.

The AVSM indicator symbol is green when active. As you approach an object ahead of you, it turns yellow or red and may produce a sound alarm. If you are already applying brakes, the light remains green. The warning alarm remains silent.
Parking Brake Indicator
The parking brake indicator is a picture symbol of a complete circle and two arcs on both sides and a letter P inside. It is a red warning light and can have the word PARK below it in some models.
The parking brake light is a multifunctional indicator. It will come on when the emergency or hand brake is engaged or not disengaged. It will also come on when the parking brake fails to engage when the brake handle is in up position. Also, it is the same warning light that will come on for low brake fluid, faulty level sensor, and uneven fluid pressure. Check your emergency brake handle position. You may need to take your vehicle to a mechanic if the indicator stays on for any other reason apart from an engaged emergency brake.
Automatic Shift Lock / Engine Start Operation
The indicator is one of the yellow Chevy dashboard symbols presented by a shoe inside a circle with two other arcs on both sides. It warns that you should step on the brakes to release the lock before you can shift the transmission into drive or reverse gear. It can also be a simple symbol of a shoe on the brake pedal. In that case, it shows that you should step on the brakes in a keyless engine start or push-button engine start vehicle before starting the engine.

The PCM will prevent you from accelerating and sometimes cut off fuel to the engine. It is a safety feature for keeping your engine from extensive damage if something goes wrong in the system. Take your vehicle to the nearest auto repair shop for further diagnosis.

The traction control system will not help you in slippery conditions, which can compromise your safety on the road.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
The Pressure Monitoring System or Tire Pressure Monitor warning light is a yellow picture symbol. It looks like a side view of a wheel with the rugged horizontal component meant to represent treads on the tire and an exclamation symbol inside it. The indicator comes on when the pressure in any wheel falls below or rises above 25%. It is also the flat tire indicator.
