We will highlight Lexus Dashboard lights and their meanings in this post. Read on to be the first to know and always stay safe when on the road.
20 Common Lexus Dashboard Lights
Second Row or Rear Seat Safety Belt Indicator
The second row or rear seat safety belt indicator reminds drivers that the rear seat belts are not on. If there are passengers in those seats, you should ask them to buckle their belts. It appears as red three seated passengers with their belts on.
It is a safety feature in many vehicle models, including Lexus, that reduces the severity of accidents. The indicator light should go off once the passengers buckle their belts. If it persists, a sensor might be faulty.
Maintenance or Service Required Indicators
Maintenance required indicators are symbolized differently in various Lexus models. Some feature an amber car with a wrench or SERVICE written below it. Others may illuminate the dashboard with OIL CHANGE, MAINT REQD, OIL and a wrench symbol, or a pan-shaped symbol with an oil drop above it. Whichever the case, it is a reminder that your vehicle is due for scheduled maintenance.
Hood Ajar indicator
The Hood ajar indicator light will come on if the hood does not latch properly. Mechanically, the hoot has a latch to hold it in place when driving. Without that, it would simply fly away. However, you cannot rely on the latch. It is a red symbol of a car with the hood open. If you see it, recheck your hood latch. Take the vehicle to an auto mechanic to be fixed if the light persists. Driving on the road with this warning light on the dashboard can be dangerous to you and other motorists.

Sunroof Open indicator
If your car has a sunroof, this indicator will come on. This amber warning light is a car with the sunroof open. Once again, the sunroof door should latch when fully closed. If that is not the case, this light is triggered. Seeing it on your dashboard when you are sure the roof is locked indicates a malfunction. Consider taking your vehicle to a mechanic for a quick checkup.
Antilock Braking System Trouble Light
Antilock Braking System (ABS) does just what the name describes. It prevents the wheel from locking when braking, which allows you to have the steering power. If there is a problem with this system, an amber ABS warning light appears on the dashboard. A faulty antilock brake system or brake assist system needs immediate fixing for your safety. Take your vehicle to a certified Lexus service provider.
Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) Indicator
This indicator is a car in front of a cone, pillar, or star above it. If the ICS is off, the symbol appears with OFF written below it. This ICS uses sonar detectors fixed in the bumpers to sense the path of low-speed travel and intelligently apply brakes to avoid possible collisions.
If there is a fault in the system or turned off, the symbol illuminates on the dashboard. Possible causes include faulty or dirty sensors. A simple cleaning can do the trick. But if it persists, replace the sensor.
Park Assist Systems Indicator
Park Assist Systems, Intuitive Parking Assistance or Park Distance Control helps you park your vehicle. It uses ultrasonic sensors to detect other nearby objects. If the system is activated and working as expected, it illuminates a green P radiating waves to a cone. It can also be a grayscale P with a steering wheel adjacent to it.
When there is a fault in this system, the color changes to amber, sometimes accompanied by an exclamation mark. The word OFF lights up next to the symbol if switched off. It simply means your Park Assist System will not work, and you should take manual control before you resolve the problem.

Differential and Axle Lock Indicator
Locking the differential is a feature available in all-wheel-drive vehicles. It is mainly activated when stuck in the mud or snow or driving on loose countryside roads. There is a center differential lock and rear differential lock in some models. An X or LOCK appears between the front and rear wheels for the center differential lock. In the case of a rear differential lock, an X or a lock appears midway through the distance between the two rear wheels.
This system can engage accidentally, causing the vehicle to hitch and buck. Just pull over, disengage the system, and drive a few feet forward or backward to unlock the system. If there is a problem, the symbol appears with an exclamation mark.
Height High Indicator
Height high indicator illuminates amber on the dashboard with the letters HEIGHT HIGH or a car with HI written in it. This system is only available on Lexus models equipped with adjustable air suspensions. A switch on the dashboard controls it.
Height high indicator shows that you have intentionally flipped the switch to drive on an uneven road. If it blinks, it indicates a malfunction in the system. Take your vehicle to a Lexus dealer at the first opportunity.
Special Drive Modes for 4 Wheel Drive Vehicles
Different symbols show up on the dashboard to represent various low-speed drive modes. These are only available on four-wheel-drive vehicles. We have mud and sand, rock and dirt, and other modes that you can manually select on the dashboard depending on your driving conditions. Fortunately, Lexus models with this feature also have automatic settings that allow the vehicle to choose the best mode.
The Drive modes can be amber symbols or lettering and appear when selected by a switch flip or triggered automatically. Otherwise, their presence indicates a fault in the system.
Electronic Shift or Throttle Control Indicator
It illuminates the green ECT PWR symbol on the dashboard when the Electronically Controlled Transmission or Throttle mode is activated. In this setting, your vehicle is maintained in a lower gear while delivering more power needed to drive on rugged terrain.
Another version is an amber ETCS symbol, an acronym for Electronic Throttle Control System. It reminds you that the mode should be deactivated when you drive on smooth terrain. If there is a malfunction, an amber Electronic Shift Malfunction Indicator comes on. It is a rugged circle and an exclamation point inscribed within it. You should pull over and contact your mechanic in such situations.

If there is a problem with the headlamp leveling system, an amber warning appears on the dashboard. It features a double-headed, curved arrow, four lines, and lump representation. The symbol may or may not have an exclamation mark. Resolve the problem immediately.
Tail Or Stop Light Out Indicator
This indicator alerts you that one or more of your tail lights are out. It is a car with eyelashes at two of its back corners. Replacing the light bulbs should resolve the situation. If it is the brake light, you should see an amber BRAKE LAMP on your dashboard as an alert.
Snow Mode Indicator
Snow mode is among the special drive modes for 4-wheel drive vehicles. When activated, a grayscale symbol of a car and snow written appears. It simply indicates your selection on the dashboard. If multi-terrain select control is automatic, the light can come on. This symbol can also light up if you accidentally select the switch. So, if you are surprised to see it, turn it off.
Valet
This feature allows you to lock your Lexus vehicle, which is crucial when giving it out to a friend. The person who rents it will not access the content on the display unless you provide them with the code. If the vehicle is in this mode, you will not access the vehicle’s display system.
High or Low Beam on Indicator
It is a blue symbol represented by a lamp and horizontal lines. You should turn it off for the oncoming vehicle. If it shows up, you are on low beam settings.

The second mode is the mountainous mode. It is a household battery with mountainous terrain. Select it to enhance battery performance when climbing. You should activate it at least 20 minutes before you start to ascend uphill.
Automatic/Active Speed Limiter or Malfunction Indicator
Speed limiter indicators are green. They alert you that it has been set and is in use. The symbol turns amber once the vehicle accelerates to the set speed. Odometer, dashed lines, LIM, or set speed limit are part of the symbol. If shown with an exclamation mark, the speed limiter system has malfunctioned.
Idle Coasting Indicator
An idle coasting indicator is a grayscale sailboat with double sails. When selected or activated, the engine speeds drop to idle to save fuel. It will only appear on the dashboard when you turn it on.
Drivetrain, Shift, or Powertrain Trouble Indicator
The drivetrain trouble indicator is a rugged circle with an exclamation point inscribed. It can be red, amber when it illuminates on the dashboard. When you see it on your dashboard, it means the automatic transmission, transaxle, or shift system has a fault. Contact an authorized service center for assistance as soon as you can.
